FAQ
Buying with RideGauge
- Do I need a VIN?
- No. VIN search decodes the machine through NHTSA vPIC. If you don’t have the plate, switch to year, make, and model — the catalog is live from NHTSA, not a short demo list.
- Are comparable listings live?
- Fair value, ZIP market, recalls, and owner complaints run live. Nearby comps stay modeled and labeled as such until a listings feed (MarketCheck or similar) is connected. RideGauge does not invent dealer inventory.
- Where are Garage deals stored?
- On this device only. Saved reports live in your browser. Clearing site data or switching phones removes them. RideGauge does not currently keep garage records on a server.
- Does it work for new and used?
- Yes. The same Gauge covers new or used motorcycles, ATVs, and UTVs — dealer lots and private-party ads. Walk-away on new machines is often deal terms; on used it is price plus condition.
- What does walk-away mean?
- A ceiling, not a dare. If the ask sits above it after you have seen the issues, the next comparable will still be there tomorrow. Opening and target sit below that line so you have a plan before the handshake.
- How do known issues and recalls work?
- Model notes come from the RideGauge engine. Owner complaints and recalls are pulled from NHTSA for that year, make, and model. Model-level campaigns do not confirm the status of a specific VIN — verify before you buy.
